Organizational History/Mission

AFS Intercultural Programs is an international, voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit network of organizations that provides intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world. We pursue our mission by providing study abroad and home stay exchanges for high-school students, as well as learning and leadership opportunities for volunteers. AFS International coordinates the network that is comprised of 59 organizations around the world with the same mission, whose programs are delivered locally, by an international partnership of more than 50000 volunteers and 900 staff around the globe. Our organization develops global citizens who strive to make a positive change in their communities. We are recognized as an educational organization by schools and the appropriate authorities and we work to create a regulatory environment that supports our programs. AFS Intercultural Programs are in official consultative partnership with UNESCO since April 2015.
