Organizational History/Mission
Founded in 2003, Words without Borders builds cultural understanding through the translation, publication, and promotion of contemporary international literature. In order to engage a younger audience, our online education initiative, Words without Borders Campus (, reorganizes and contextualizes our rich literary content for use in the advanced high school and beginning college classroom. WWB Campus creates a virtual learning space without borders, leading to meaningful, and lasting, cross-cultural understanding and a lifelong interest in international literature.

  • Contemporary global literature, organized by country and theme and searchable by genre, topic, author, etc.
  • Contextual materials, including introductions to each country’s history and literature; maps to help students locate the texts geographically; audio clips of readings; and relevant artwork, videos, music, and essays
  • Curricular materials, including ideas for lessons, assignments, and class discussions that help students form nuanced understandings of international literature; connections to standards for reading and writing; suggestions for additional readings and online materials
